Tattoo artist based at TOMB Tattoo, Cape Town.
My work is rooted in black-and-grey illustrative tattooing, combining fine linework, soft stippling and strong, simple compositions. I draw inspiration from vintage photographs, old storybook illustrations, cinema, sport, animals and everyday objects—turning familiar imagery into tattoos with character and a slightly unexpected edge.
Every piece I tattoo is drawn for the person wearing it. Working in black and grey, I build designs out of fine linework, stippled shading and compositions that stay clear as they settle — nothing crowded, nothing borrowed from a catalogue. A first enquiry usually starts loose: an idea, a few references, a rough placement. From there we work out the size and shape that actually suits the body part before anything is drawn up.
My references come from vintage illustration, cinema, music, skateboarding, sport, animals, pop culture and the odd everyday objects most people walk past. Those things get redrawn into tattoos with a bit of character and a slightly unexpected edge. I work from TOMB Tattoo in Cape Town, on pieces ranging from small hand and rib work through to full sleeves and chest pieces built over several sessions.

I’m Bruce, a Cape Town–based tattoo artist working under the name Bruce the Kid at TOMB Tattoo. I’ve been tattooing for more than 15 years, developing an illustrative black-and-grey style built around fine linework, soft stippling and carefully considered compositions.
My work is inspired by pop culture, skateboarding, music, vintage illustrations and the strange details found in everyday life. I enjoy turning personal ideas and unexpected references into original tattoos that feel distinctive, timeless and full of character.
